A few months ago, I decided to give my bedroom a little spruce up and redecorate it. I initially started off with the idea that I would just get a new TV, which then led onto the idea of repainting and before I knew it, I wanted a new bed and basically wanted to change anything that wasn’t fixed to the room! I really enjoyed the process of redecorating my room, everything from looking for inspiration, to sourcing and styling. However something I didn’t love was coming across a number of bad furniture companies, that were either unreliable or just had bad customer service. I learnt early on in the process that buying large pieces of furniture was going to be very different to buying clothes online – if I didn’t like what I saw, I would have to find a way of returning it, one of which resulted in me making multiples trips trekking through Westfield shopping centre with two heavy bedside tables, all by myself. Needless to say, that was my first and last time purchasing anything from that particular shop. That being said, I did find some great companies and absolute gems when it came to purchasing interiors for my home!
| WAYFAIR
Wayfair is a company that until deciding to redecorate, I had never purchased from. But I will say, I was pleasantly surprised with everything, from the ease of the website, to the quick, free delivery! I love how there’s a variety of shops, styles and price points – there’s literally something for everyone! I purchased my stunning table lamps from Wayfair, which I probably wouldn’t have found elsewhere, especially at the same price. As I said I had a positive experience with Wayfair and will definitely be purchasing from them when redecorating others areas of the house!
| AMAZON
This may sound like a weird one, but Amazon was my go-to when it came to finding specific items that I knew I wanted, such as decorative fashion books. I purchased my Chanel and Dior catwalk books and not to forget, the crème-de-la-crème of fashion books, the renowned Tom Ford coffee table book! Obviously you can buy books from anywhere, but I just find it easier, especially with Amazon Prime because I can be quite impatient with these types of things, also they’re sometimes cheaper on Amazon too!
| IKEA
I feel like IKEA is an absolute no-brainer for most of us! You can’t really go wrong with a bit of IKEA. Decent quality furniture at really affordable prices! I used to have a fair few bits from IKEA, such as the iconic Malm Dressing Table and the chest of drawers etc. but over the years I have streamlined the larger pieces in my room. However something a little more exciting (in my opinion anyway) are my bedside tables, which I think are very sleek and streamlined – perfect if you’re into minimal interior with a hint of something! I also done a little hack to these drawers, by adding a brass handle, to ensure it was in keeping with the art deco aesthetic I was going for.
| HOMESENSE
HomeSense was always going to be my first port of call. I personally haven’t ever purchased any large pieces of furniture, but I’ve definitely bought a frame or two or five hundred. I have always found HomeSense to be a great place to go to as they have an array of items, many of which look like one-off pieces at a really affordable price. I love IKEA, but I don’t purchase little trinket pieces as they’re things you would see in so many homes and ends up just feeling a bit generic. One of my favourite finds from HomeSense definitely has to be this polo ornament. Some may think it’s stupid, but I think it fits in really well on my bookshelf – in terms of the colourway of the white and matte black and the minimalist vibe of the ornament itself.
| H&M HOME
Similar to HomeSense, H&M Home was definitely on my list when it came to sourcing little trinket pieces, especially as I knew I needed a fair few bits to style my bookshelf. They have lovely decorative pieces, including photo frames and vases to name a few. A couple of the pieces I’ve bought have been a tiny mauve/grey vase, which quite frankly is too small to for any purpose, but I also picked up a mirrored dome. Again it has no purpose, but it looks good which is what I personally wanted.
| DUNELM
I’ve shopped at Dunelm before, but it wasn’t a place I thought I’d find many things that I wanted for my new room. I had the misconception that they stocked more contemporary items, but needless to say, I did find a couple items that I really liked. One being a floating photo frame, which I thought, was a cool, simplistic piece for my bookshelf, however the piece de resistance is my beautiful brass and matte black sand timer! Again, it serves absolutely no purpose and I don’t even know how long the time is, but I think it’s a stunning little addition!
Have you checked out any of these places before? Where’s your favourite places to pick up some amazing finds for your home?
