If you’re an avid reader of my website or follow me on social media you’ll know that I am partial to a designer purchase or two. I’ve always been into the luxury market and a few years ago I properly started investing in certain pieces that I knew I would love, that would stand the test of time. That being said I have only ever purchased designer items brand new and the pre-loved market is one that is booming and is somehow one that I’ve yet to venture into. I’ve always been a little bit reluctant to purchase pre-loved items for a few reasons, the main one being authenticity. I also like to see things in person before I purchase it and you just don’t really know the quality item you’re going to get, however 2020 may be the year that I actually purchase something on the pre-loved market. There are a few items that I’ve got my eye on that I would love to buy so I thought I would share what the items are and why I’m considering purchasing them pre-loved rather than buying brand new.
LOUIS VUITTON NOE
The Louis Vuitton Noe is a bag that I’ve spoken about before in my luxury wish list (read here) and is one that I’d still like. It’s a lovely bucket bag that I would get in the infamous monogram print and I think it would make the perfect spring / summer bag because it would look lovely with white dresses, shorts, oversized shirts etc. and I think it could look really cool. The reason why I’d purchased this bag pre-loved rather than brand-new is purely because I love how Louis Vuitton monogram bags look when they’ve been worn a fair bit as I’m not a fan of them when they’re brand new. Also, as much as I love the style of this bag it’s not one that I think I would get a great amount of use from, and I don’t think I can justify paying full price for it when I wouldn’t get the amount of use required to get it to look how I would like and also the cost per wear wouldn’t be great for me.
CHANEL CLASSIC FLAP
Pretty much anyone who is into luxury bags has probably set their eyes on this number – the Chanel Classic Flap. This is a bag that is on my ultimate Wish List and being a classic, is always going to be in style. It’s one that will look good no matter how old you are and no matter what year it is. As I’m sure many people are aware Chanel bags are from cheap and this bag is now around the £5000 mark so it’s quite a lot of money to spend on one bag. This is the reason why I would consider purchasing it pre-loved because you can get it for around half the price (which is still a lot to spend on a bag) but at the same time it’s not £5000. If I were to purchase this bag I would choose the caviar leather as it’s more robust with preferably silver hardware and I think this bag would look great for formal evenings out as well as for more casual look with a plain shirt and jeans and a good pair of shoes.
ROLEX DATEJUST
A Rolex is my absolute dream watch and the DateJust is one of the most beautiful watches I’ve ever set my eyes on. Some may say basic but I just think it’s stunning. I’ve always said that when I get to a particular point in my career and financially that I would treat myself to this watch and I still standby that. There’s not much I can really say about this because to a certain extent, it is just a watch, but there is something about a Rolex that I love and when I do eventually purchase one it will symbolise a lot more than just being a nice watch.
LOUIS VUITTON KEEPALL
The final item I would purchase pre-loved is another one from Louis Vuitton, which is the Keepall which is essentially a duffel / overnight bag. Similarly to the Noe bag it’s one that I just don’t think I would get a huge amount of use out of it, to justify purchasing it brand new. I’ve had my eye on this bad for a couple of years now but as much as it pains me to say I just don’t think I need it that much in my life at the moment. I’m not travelling as much as I would like and it would end up being a bag that I would use on the odd occasion that I do travel, or stay out overnight or on my shoot days, so other than that it’s not one that I would use enough to justify the cost.
Have you purchased anything pre-loved? What has your experience been? Is there anything you’re currently eying up?
