When it comes to makeup, one of my favourite things is to highlight, especially now in the colder months when my skin call appear quite dull and sallow. Only up until a few years ago, did highlighting and contouring become such a huge thing in the beauty industry. Nowadays so many makeup brands have jumped on the bandwagon to provide their offerings of highlighters. Due to my love of highlighting, I have tried and tested my fair share of them and have developed a fair few favourites, here’s the lowdown!
| The Moisturiser: There are days when my skin is looking very dull and sallow and on days like this, I need all the help I can get, so I tend to opt for an illuminating moisturiser to kick-start the faux glow. The Simple Illuminating Radiance Cream* has always been my go-to products for this. This is a really hydrating moisturiser with light-reflecting particles to give the ‘glow from within’ look. I also like that this has SPF 15 as it means I can either wear it alone or under my makeup and my skin is protected regardless.
| The Subtle One: I don’t always want a really intense highlight, sometimes there are days when I want either a subtle no makeup-makeup look or just a really minimal look. My go-to pick is often the Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Glow, which is a cream, contour and highlight duo. The highlight is a stunning ivory shade, ideal for a vast array of skin tones and it gives the illusion of having a healthy, natural glow to the key points of the face.
| The Bronze Glow: The MAC Global Glow tends to be my default highlighter – the one I always go back to. It’s a little bit warmer than the renowned ‘Soft and Gentle’ highlighter from MAC. It has a similar effect on darker skin tones as S&G has on paler skin tones. The pigmentation is amazing and it catches the light beautifully. This highlighter is quite versatile and can be worn for both natural makeup as well as full on glam makeup when you want to glow to the gods! Being a buildable highlighter, it’s perfect if you’re someone who likes to top up their highlight!
The Foundation: Coming across a light foundation that has a good, medium coverage is rare. I love how dewy the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation is as it gives a lovely perfecting, but natural look. More often than not, matte foundations are regarded as having good longevity, however the luminous silk is actually long lasting, particularly for a nice dewy base.
The Firm Staple: It’s no secret that my absolute favourite highlighter of all time is the Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder. It is one of the most insanely pigmented highlighters I’ve ever tried. Bronze Glow is a beautiful bronze with a golden undertone and it would compliment anyone, but particularly if you have a warm undertone in your skin. Despite the fact that this highlighter is amazing by itself, by using MAC Fix + it just intensifies it to a whole new level!
