Over the past few weeks, I’ve gone for a more natural approach with makeup, particularly with my base. Rather than going for a flawless base, I’ve opted for a natural base that reflects the whole “perfectly imperfect” mantra and showing my hyperpigmentation, rather than covering it up. The type of makeup that I’ve been trying to achieve is a light, natural and dewy look. As much as I love makeup, I’ve started spending less time applying it in the mornings and not using as much because not only is it annoying to take off after a long day at work, but I realised that there wasn’t a great difference in my everyday makeup, to my evening/going out makeup.
| BASE
My everyday look hugely consists of what I use for my base. I start off every makeup application with a primer. My current favourite is the Nivea Post Shave Balm, which has a liquid consistency that ends up being a nice balm once rubbed in. This is the best primer that I’ve found so far for preventing my foundation from settling into my smile lines. The foundation I’ve been using is one of my all-time favourites – the Maybelline Fit Me Matte Poreless and I’ve been applying it with a beauty blender, which really helps to push the foundation into my skin, helping to achieve a light, natural base. For concealer, I’ve been switching between the Maybelline Fit Me and Nars Radiant Creamy concealers. They’re both pretty good shade matches for me, which is another change in my makeup, as I haven’t been highlighting under the eyes. To set my concealer, I’ve been trying out something relatively new to me, the *Pixi Quick Fix Powder which I’ve really enjoyed lately. It nicely sets under my eyes and my smile lines to further prevent creasing. Another major change to my everyday makeup is ditching the contour. This is highly unlike me, as I love highlight and contouring as a duo. I’ve finally taken up strobing, so using liquid highlighters – either the Niod Photography Fluid or the Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer on the key points of my face maintain a natural and dewy look.
| EYES & LIPS
I’ve been so simple when it comes to eyes and lips and only using the bare minimum. For eyes, I’ve been wearing a couple lashings of the Max Factor Masterpiece mascara and on the rare occasion, I’ve used an eyeshadow from the *Pixi X ItsJudyTime Eyeshadow palette. When I have worn eyeshadow it has been a subtle reddy, brown shade. For brows, it very rarely changes regardless of whether I’m going for a lighter or heavy look. I’ve recently gone back to a couple of old favourites of mine, which are The Body Shop Brow & Liner Kit to fill my brows in and the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer to clean up and sculpt my brows. On the off chance I want to set them, I use the Maybelline Fiber Filler to keep them in place all day. For lips, I’ve not even been wearing a lipstick/gloss as I’ve only been sticking to the Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner, which is such a lovely, hydrating glossy lip balm. It’s not only good for the lips, but it makes them look nice and plump too!
