Over the past couple over years, I’ve really taken a step back when it comes to makeup. Whereas in my late teens, I would wear a full face of makeup pretty much every time I left the house, whether it was to college, work or university, nowadays, it’s rare that I choose to wear a full face. I remember a moment back in 2018, I had just cleaned my makeup brushes and they were all squeaky clean and the next day I didn’t feel like dirtying them all over again, so I decided to go bare-faced which like I said was unlike me. Going forward from that I pretty much didn’t wear makeup for a good few weeks straight. I came to the realisation that once I was out of the house, I just didn’t care. Believe it or not, I’m not someone who constantly looks at myself in the mirror, so I ended up forgetting that I didn’t have any makeup on. Before I knew it, it had been months and I was still rarely wearing any makeup. Fast forward to 2020, I still only tend to wear a full face for shoots or events, but I have started to fully dabble in makeup again, mainly because I’ve found a handful of products that I actually really enjoy using and love how they look on and here’s the lowdown;
BROWS;
Brows are pretty essential for me when it comes to a 3-step everyday makeup look. My natural brows aren’t too shapely and I’m a firm believer that brows really shape your face, so I make sure I fill my brows in regardless. To fill my brows in, I use a MAC eyeshadow in the shade ‘Brun’, which is a mid-tone matte brown eyeshadow. It’s not too dark, but it’s a quick way to fill them in. I then follow this with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, just to carve out my brows to give them more shape. If I need to go back in and define my arch or tail of my brows, I use the NYX Micro Brow Pencil.
HIGHLIGHT;
This may seem a bit weird, considering I don’t really put any other base products on, I just think that highlight is a nice touch to add for a nice glow. When doing barely there or minimal makeup looks, I personally don’t opt for extremely blinding or overwhelming highlighters. My go-to highlighters for a natural and subtle glow are the Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Glow Duo, which also comes with a cream contour, or the Niod Photography Fluid is another good option. However my usual go-to is the Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer. It’s such a fail-safe product and one that I’ve been using for years. That being said, all of these products are great contenders, they’re all really easy to work with and come in stunning shades too!
LIPS;
I’m very basic on the lip front. I don’t tend to go over the top because it is such a natural makeup look, but I always tend to go for some kind of lip balm or treatment. The *Rabot Fruited Chocolat is a current favourite of mine as it’s a nice and hydrating lip balm. If I need a more intensive treatment throughout the day, I’ll opt for the Clarins Comfort Lip Oil, which is glossy, but so intensively nourishing throughout the day. If I want something with a hint of tint to it, I’ll use the Dr. Paw Paw Tinted Peach Lip Balm, which is fairly new to me, but another great pick!
Do you always wear a full face of makeup? What are some of your favourite makeup picks? Is there anything you recommend that I try?
